Leadership Program

The Human Outreach Project (HOP) Leadership Program is designed to develop leadership skills and foster global citizenship. HOP is a non-profit charitable organization (501c3), born out of a commitment to include humanitarian efforts as an integral component of World Wide Trekking expeditions. HOP has a special focus on the health and educational needs of children living in orphanages adjacent to expedition sites.
Guided by a committed leadership team, students in the HOP Leadership Program combine the challenge of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340’), the highest point on the African continent, with a week-long service project conceptualized in partnership with the local community. Through these two intensive experiences students are challenged individually and as a group, gaining an understanding of what constitutes effective leadership in various contexts and how to use those skills to better various communities.
Since 2010, the HOP Student Leadership and Global Citizen Program has been a major success, for both the participants and the new Tanzanian orphanage!
