Nepal
Project Overview
HOP has relationships with the Namche Dental Clinic, Kunde Medical Clinic, and an orphanage where children of deceased Sherpa guides reside, all located in the foothill region of Mt. Everest. This year, Mr. Jyabiyang Sherpa, the director of the Himalayan Children's Foundation orphanage, made a special request to HOP for recreational equipment for the children — rare to find in the foothills. HOP brought 6 extra-large North Face duffel bags stuffed with school supplies, clothing, and sporting goods.

HOP also set up educational accounts for three children in the Children's Foundation orphanage. Their father, Ang Pasang Sherpa was killed in 2005 working as a high altitude climbing sherpa in the Khumbu. Their mother, Dawa Sherpa, lives in Kharikhola, a remote mountain village high in the Khumbu valley. Last year, HOP provided funds to fly Dawa to Kathmandu to see her children after a two year separation. This year, HOP funded a two week visit, after another long year of separation.
